Back to Blog List Page

Ready for a good old Spring Cleaning session? As the flowers start to bloom and warmer days return, so does the itch to refresh our surroundings, which usually means tackling some projects in and around the house. Below, we’ve included some propane-related tips to consider as you’re putting together your ‘to-do’ list for each area of your lovely abode. Let’s work our way from the outside in, and everything from your yard to your living room will be scrubbed, safe, and beautiful before you know it!

The Propane Tank

During the winter months, critters look for places to cozy up and nest, debris can accumulate from branches, leaves, and other natural wonders, and things can get a bit messy in general. Because propane is flammable, we recommend maintaining the area around your tank and keeping it free of debris that could create a potential fire hazard. Keeping that area clear also allows your friendly AmeriGas driver to easily access your tank for your next fill up!

Speaking of which, have you scheduled that yet? Knock another thing off your ‘to-do’ list and log in to your MyAmeriGas account to conveniently request a delivery online.

The Yard

If any of your landscaping or other yard-improvement plans require digging, be sure to call 811 before you whip out that shovel. A simple phone call can help keep you safe and avoid unwelcome contact with underground utilities while you spruce up your favorite selection of shrubs.

The Propane Grill and Fire Pit

Looking forward to cooking and entertaining outdoors? If you haven’t used your propane grill or fire pit in a while, it’s a good idea to do a leak check with a “bubble test.”

And don’t forget to grab a spare cylinder! No one wants to be stuck with a tray of cold hot dogs because you only have one cylinder that happens to run out mid-barbecue. Find an AmeriGas Cylinder Exchange location near you.

The Garage and Shed

Make sure your garage and shed are cylinder-free zones. Propane tanks and grill cylinders should be securely stored outdoors in a cool, well-ventilated location, and in an upright (vertical) position, away from any sources of heat or ignition. Get more grill cylinder safety tips here and here.

The Propane-Powered Appliances

We’ve finally made it inside. Give yourself a pat on the back for all the lovely work you’ve done outside, grab yourself a cup of coffee and your most motivating cleaning playlist, and get ready to clean your propane-powered appliances. We’ll help guide you through it all: your propane oven, propane water heater, propane furnace, propane fireplace, and more. Read more about Spring Cleaning for your propane appliances here.

Congratulations! If you made it through this list, your propane-powered house and yard should be ready for a new season of fun. Here’s to hot grills and cool summer nights by your propane fire pit, surrounded by friends and family, and at least a few s’mores. Hey, you’ve earned it!
