AmeriGas Safety Alert:
At AmeriGas, the safety of our customers and employees is our number one priority. Recently, we have become aware of an increasing number of budget-priced propane tankless water heaters for sale on various e-commerce websites. Some of these models are unsafe for indoor installation and may come with unclear, incomplete, or incorrect installation and operating instructions. Improper installation and use of these models could cause a leak, fire, or exposure to carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, and potentially deadly gas.
Customers interested in buying a propane-compatible tankless water heater, or any propane appliance, should always:
- Buy from reputable manufacturers and sellers.
- Look for certification by a nationally recognized testing lab.
- Have the appliance installed, inspected, and regularly serviced by trained and licensed contractors.
- Make sure that installation is done in compliance with local building and industry codes including proper ventilation.
- Install a carbon monoxide detector on each floor of your home.
AmeriGas urges anyone who smells the rotten egg odor added to propane to evacuate immediately, get at least the length of a football field away, and then call 911 or the AmeriGas Emergency Line at 800-805-0659.
